Nail careThe nail is made of a hard protein called keratin. Psoriasis is a hereditary disorder which most commonly affects the skin on the elbows, knees, face, and even the scalp with a rash like appearance. The nails help protect the ends of the fingers and toes from trauma and also help us pick up small objects. They may be the first signals to the presence of systemic illnesses as they are afflicted by numerous internal and external factors. In the finger nails, psoriasis may appear as pits in the nail plate, or as the nail plate separating from the nail bed. Other symptoms include the nail loosing its normal luster, appearing discolored, or grossly thickening. Nail care can be simple or extensive, depending on your preference. For most people, the process of a manicure or pedicure should take no more than 15 minutes a week, involving removal of polish, trimming of nails, and cuticle maintenance. Tips On Nail CareBelow are some useful nail care tips: Use a cotton lined glove if you have to use harsh detergents or chemicals If you wear nail polish on a regular basis then, take them off for a day or two every week, in order to let your nails breath. You should stop biting the nails. Nail polish thinner can be used to thin out nail polish that has become too thick. Keep the polish in the refrigerator to make it last longer. Dip a cotton-tipped swab in hydrogen peroxide to clean under the nails and whiten them. Apply a moisturizer cream to the nail and folds at bed time to keep them smooth and clean .
