Skin Care - Skin Toning TipsSkin ToningThese days toners have definitely gone out of fashion. Modern opinion is that faces do not need toning as skin tone comes from within, and cannot be applied from a bottle. A wide variety of toners are available. We should avoid those products that contain alcohol ,colors or artificial fragrance. Alcohol dries the skin and harms the soluble collagen below the surface of the skin. A toner should be appropriate for your skin type . However, the superficial tightening effect of these products, which are generally astringent, is a good preparation for foundation, as it makes any open pores look smaller - albeit temporarily. But be warned: if you use toner too often you could end up suffering from dry, tight skin. In addition, watch out for 'clarifying' mists and lotions - they may glory in modern names, but they still often contain harsh skincare agents such as acids, alcohol and witch hazel. However, if you do not feel properly cleansed unless you make toning a regular part of your beauty regime, make sure that you choose a product that is alcohol free. This category of skin-care products include cosmetics like skin fresheners, toners and astringents. They basically contain alcohol and water. Glycerine, witch hazel, menthol, camphor, boric acid, rose water and alum are often added. The basic difference in the formula is in the amount of alcohol these products contain. As alcohol has avery drying effect, there is little or none of it in the products intended fordry skin while the products for use on oily skin have a high alcohol content. To remove the greasiness which appears on the face after the use of a cleanse, you definitely need to use a toner. This product will pick up the last bit of cleanser that you may have missed which in turn, could cause more breakouts. These products are used after cleaning the skin (with soap or any other cleanser), though they can be used as interim cleansers as well, as they can remove grime and oils. They freshen and tone up the skin and prepare it for application of make-up. They also restore the acid, alkali balance of the skin, because they are pH balanced. Put a few drops of toner on a piece of cotton wool and apply it on the face and leave it on. It contracts muscles, refines (shrinks) pores, absorbs the oil and grease immediately, leaving behind a fresh, radiant skin. Use it to see the immediate difference it makes to your complexion. Skin Toning TipsDespite claims to the contrary, fresheners, toners and astringents do not close pores. As a matter of fact, no cosmetic product can alter the actual size of the pores. What really happens afterusing these products is a mild irritation of the skin. This results in swelling of the skin and so the pores appear less prominent. For extra oily skins, use astringent lotion instead of a toner. An astringent is a strongtoner which affectively removes excessive oiliness besides toning and refreshing the skin. Tips for skin toningRub wit a piece of potato over the face and neck and wash it off after 15 minutes. This is very effective for oily skin and can be used with moisturizer for dry skin. Moisten cotton wool with skin toning lotion and put it on cheeks, chin and neck. Mineral water diluted with rose water is used for dry skin. Apply it gently with the cotton avoiding the eye and upper cheek area. A piece of cotton should be used with astringent lotions. If you have normal, combination or dry skin, use very delicate and light preparation to refresh the skin. Never use a harsh astringent lotion for this purpose. Rose water based product is preferred. Oily skinned people should tone with an astringent lotion, applying to the oiliest places, that is sides of the nose, chin and forehead. Two tablespoons of lemon juice wit one tablespoon glycerine and three tablespoons of rose water should be used for a dry skin. Rub this juice on the skin. Toner for sensitive skin is to mash the strawberries and apply it for 5 minutes and wash it off. For dry skin vitamin E and wheat oil are also effective. Put in a jar a tablespoon of chopped mint and add two tablespoons of cider vinegar. Shake well and put in a cold place like fridge for few days. Get the liquid back and add 300 ml of water. Rub it on the skin with cotton. An excellent skin toner is the rose. Make rose water by mixing one tablespoon rose oil with two and half litres of purified water. Put it in a bottle and store in a refrigerator. TONERS FOR DRY SKINAvoid toners and makeup that contain alcohol as alcohol-based products have a drying effect on skin. TONERS FOR OILY SKIN Use toners and astringents containing alcohol to help dry the skin TONERS FOR SENSITIVE SKINUse a hypoallergenic toner on oily areas, but discontinue if it causes irritation DRY TO OILY SKIN When using a toner, dilute it with water before applying to your cheeks
